The Great Eagles: the wisest and most magnificent of all beasts. They were shaped by the the hands of Manwë Súlimo of the Valar, during the First Age, to act as messengers and spies. When the Ñoldor were exiled to Middle-Earth, the Eagles were sent to keep a watchful eye on them, as well to help keep the evil of Morgoth in check. Even in the Third Age, these highly sentient creatures are known for their mystery and power. They do not interfere with the concerns of men, dwarfs or elves, but they (most notably Gwaihir) often aid the wizard Gandalf in his endeavors for the good of Middle-Earth. To even see one is a privilege, let alone speak with one.
One of the best NPC interactions in Lotro is the chance to see and speak with the Great Eagles. Even as a child, reading about these powerful creatures in the books invoked a deep sense of awe and fascination. They (as well as the Ents) are the embodiment of Tolkiens deep love for nature. It was definitely a highlight in the Lotro story to have one-on-one interaction with both Gwaihir and Landroval. The former eagle you meet in an Epic Volume II instance, the latter in The Great River (the bigger eagle seen in these pictures). When I received the "Friend of the Eagles" title in the Great River quest arc, I was elated and have worn it proudly since. To make an outfit inspired by them was extremely fun and rewarding.
Once again, the collaboration of both old and new crafted and armor set pieces produces exceptional attire. Every piece in this outfit is from a different side of the world map - from Evendim to Rohan. Looking for the perfect getup is a side quest all it's own in Lotro. No other MMO I have played can really compare to the endless possibilities that await in every player's wardrobe. It's what keeps me a loyal player, and I hope it never changes.
Enjoy the outfit!
